LOK HOW YUAN (Biographical note)

Born in Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia, in the late 1950s, and spent early years there until 18 years old.

Develop a strong enthusiasm in drawing and painting since primary and secondary school years.

Studied art at the Malaysian Institute of Art, Kuala Lumpur, and graduated in 1979, then, worked full-time as a designer for nearly two years.

Studied and major in painting at the San Francisco Art Institute, California, USA, and graduated in 1984. There after traveled extensively in USA, Europe and Asia.

With special interest in Art History and Aesthetics, began art teaching since 1985 as a lecturer, and later, Head of the Foundation Studies, head of EARC, lecturer in Drama, and Fine art Departments in MIA; also a part-time lecturer at the KBU and TARC (1997-2001).

Held 3 solo art exhibitions in Ink painting and Acrylic painting, group and invited shows since 1980.

Written reviews and articles for newspapers, exhibition catalogs, art magazines, and also hosted as speaker, moderator for several art seminars.

From 1999 to 2004, managed an art gallery and curates several exhibitions featuring some local artists.

Presently, a painter and lecturer, writes on occasion for art catalogs and exhibitions.
